What is the Public Housing Program?

Public Housing Agencies were established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Public Housing properties come in all sizes and types, from scattered family apartments and houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local housing agencies that manage the housing for low-income residents at rents that can afford. The Housing Authority of Richmond, Missouri operates and maintains over 118 Public Housing units throughout the Richmond area.

Anyone seeking housing assistance in the Richmond, Missouri area is eligible to apply for housing assistance. The Housing Authority of Richmond, Mo determines initial eligibility based on four factors: (1) annual gross income, (2) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status(3) local federal preference, and (4) criminal record. If determined eligible, the Housing Authority will request references and documentation to assess whether the applicant will make a good tenant. The Housing Authority will deny admission to any applicant who demonstrates negative actions or behaviors which will have a detrimental effect on the Public Housing tenants and environment.
